Interdisciplinary performance by Jordan Arseneault & Matthew-Robin Nye
Musical accompanist: Marc Wieser

A 35-minute kaleidoscope of myth, auto-biography, and manifesto, (from the prefix sero mean “blood” and cene meaning “epoch”), Serocene is a an interdisciplinary performance using song, live cello, monologue, drag, and projected video animation to evoke connections between the performer’s experience with body dysmorphia and HIV in the context of global epochal shifts. Created with the support of Studio 303. Canadian premiere.

If there’s a future, which could be like now but with more people and different plagues, it will be met by those who will either recognize or ignore nature’s need for a reckoning. It’s trying to tell us something, even if we cannot see the virus for the trees.

We acknowledge the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, which last year invested $153 million to bring the arts to Canadians throughout the country.
