AIDS Community Cares About Food Security

ACCM, Fundraising

For over 35 years, AIDS Community Care Montreal has been steadfast in its dedication to providing support for people living with HIV. What originated out of church basements and Member’s living rooms, ACCM has grown into the multi-program centre, spanning decades of services attending to the needs of Montreal communities affected by HIV.

One common need throughout these 35 years has always been:

Food Security.

What began as just a hot pot of coffee for members many years ago has grown into long-standing ACCM programs, such as:

  • Our weekly Dinner and facilitated workshops;
  • The monthly Food Bank Baskets;
  • ACCM’s Community Pantry and Fridge;

… to name just a few.

Compared to the general Canadian population, people living with HIV are significantly more likely to experience food insecurity. Of course, these connections are so much more than just a warm meal. For people living with HIV, food can make the difference in medication adherence, quality of life, and many other aspects of their health.

Since 2022, ACCM has helped deliver over 11,644 kg of food to our members. ACCM has also seen a steady rise in members accessing our services and has had to face the difficult necessity of implementing waitlists for certain programs like our monthly Buyer’s Club Food Baskets and could not continue having hot meals to offer for emergency needs.

This is where the community of ACCM rises to address this challenge by raising the funds necessary to ensure these programs continue reaching the needs of the community.

Join us this November in helping ACCM rise to address this challenge by raising the funds necessary to ensure these programs continue reaching the needs of the community.
