ACCM Denounces Bill 21

ACCM

The Board of AIDS Community Care Montreal (ACCM) denounces Bill 21, An Act respecting the laicity of the State. ACCM believes in advocating for the rights of marginalized peoples; overcoming stigma, discrimination, and racism; and creating safe, respectful, and welcoming environments. ACCM condemns Bill 21 because it is in direct misalignment with the values of our organization. The proposed bill systematically targets racialized and religious groups in Québec, condones the stigmatization of these groups of people, and perpetuates feelings of fear and distrust toward communities of people of colour and people who wear religious symbols. ACCM rejects the proposed bill, including the discrimination and racism it endorses, and we reaffirm our commitment to supporting and serving at-risk populations, marginalized communities, and people living with HIV/AIDS and hepatitis C.
