ACCM Board of Directors 2024

Get to know a little bit more about some of the people on the ACCM Board of Directors. These volunteers are hard at work helping to govern ACCM and put in place structure and policies for the well-being of our organization.

ADÉX LAVA (verbally: he/him – print/online I ask not to use any pronouns)

I decided to join the Board, as I believe my over 20 years of experience in strategic planning, organizational development, policy development, and change management would be an asset to the Board of Directors.

I am a visual artist – since being diagnosed in 2021 I started a body of work called CUM(PILATION), where I use seminal fluid to tell my HIV journey.

Cosmas Chingwena (he/him/his)

Honorary Board Member

I joined ACCM because, as a Social Worker, I wanted to give all the necessary support to the people living with HIV/AIDS. I wanted to be their voice in promotion of the 3 Zeros: Zero discrimination, Zero new infections and Zero HIV/AIDS death related.

Elisabeth Faure – but I mostly go by Liz (she/her)

Honorary Board Member

I decided to become involved with the Board as I had volunteered for ACCM many years ago and had a good experience. I like the organization and its mission, and when I saw the call for Board members, I sent in my CV. I am obsessed with elephants and have many elephant-themed items in my house, including a hand-written letter from the author of the Babar books!

Gregg Rowe (he/him/they)

Honorary Board Member

I have been involved with the Board performing various roles to help with continuity and transparency within the infrastructure of ACCM. Other than being an activist in our communities for the past 35 years, I am also an art therapist and an accomplished artist in various mediums (film, photography, writing and painting).

Jenni (she/her/they/them)

I am a huge policy wonk and HIV-AIDS diagnosis is three times higher in First Nations living on-reserve than the overall Canadian population. It is important to me to be an indigenous person advocating for great inclusion on indigenous folks in the HIV-AIDS community.

I have completed my bucket list which included seeing lions in Uganda, going to NASA and seeing Angor Wat, and I am now trying to complete a second bucket list.

Philip (him/lui)

Board Member

I wanted to give back to a community that has been kind to me and generous with their time and affection. I am both a plant dad (~30 plants) and a dog dad (miniature Schnauzer named Lady).

Robert Cole (he/him)

Board Member

I joined the ACCM Board of Directors because I wanted to find a way to use my skills and experience to help my community. My favorite hobby is Dungeons and Dragons, and I play every week.

Thomas Dobronyi (they/them)

I used to be the Dinner & Discussion cook, and a staff member encouraged me to seek a nomination for the board. As C.L.R. James says, “any cook can govern,” so I went for it! I’ve been a professional ballet dancer in Germany and South Africa.

Vanessa Xiu (they/she)

Honorary Board Member

I aspire to improve health equities by integrating community engagement and quantitative research. I am also a big fan of latex (software).
