Volunteer Rights
• To be respected and treated fairly as an ACCM volunteer;
• To be well informed about the organization and changes that are occurring;
• To be trusted with confidential information on a need to know basis related to my area of volunteer work;
• To receive volunteer support and encouragement for the work done (this could include volunteer bereavement);
• To receive appropriate appreciation and recognition on a regular basis;
• To have the opportunity to give feedback in the volunteer assignment to their Program Director and the Director of Volunteers;
• To be heard, recognized and respected for your own experiences and the expertise you bring to the organization;
• To be given opportunities for communications with other volunteers;
• To work for an organization that is actively opposed to illegal discrimination and HIV/AIDS-phobia;
• As an ACCM volunteer, I have the right to refuse a client and/or volunteer of any service while under the influence of illegal drugs and/or alcohol;
• To become a member of ACCM and attend the Annual General Meeting.
Code of Ethics
• As an ACCM volunteer, I agree to uphold the absolute confidentiality of any ACCM client/volunteer information privy to the organization. I also agree to adhere to the Volunteer Code of ethics outlined in the following:
• To commit to my volunteer work with ACCM for a period of at least six months;
• To maintain confidentiality with respect to personal information relating to clients, volunteers, members and staff;
• To acknowledge the need for on-going training on HIV/AIDS information relevant to my volunteer assignment;
• To know and express personal limits;
• To follow ACCM volunteer guidelines and when unsure about policies will seek the advice/counsel from my department Director or the Director of Volunteers;
• To be sincere within my capacity as a volunteer and to believe in the value of a job well done;
• To maintain the dignity of ACCM with the public;
• I will respect the guidance and decisions of Program Directors/Supervisors;
• To understand the function of staff, volunteers and clients; maintaining a smooth working relationship with them and stay within the boundaries of my volunteer responsibilities;
• To give constructive feedback to improve effectiveness of the organization and its programs;
• To understand that consumption of alcohol prior or during volunteer service and within the premises of ACCM is absolutely forbidden without the authorization by the organization (i.e. for special events). The consumption of illegal drugs is strictly forbidden;
• To inform the Volunteer Department of any change in address, telephone number or other related volunteer bank information;
• To provide the organization with as much notice as possible of intentions of leaving the organization or inability to complete an assignment;
• To respect the diversity and uniqueness of the individuals within our organization;
• If circumstances indicate serious threat to human health I will immediately seek council with my Supervisor or Director;
• Volunteers should not bear the burden of such information alone;
• Volunteerism is anchored in service. Service and personal interactions should not be blurred and in such case will recognize such as a conflict of interest. I will seek counsel with the appropriate Director or the Director of Volunteers and seek a new assignment.
